Turkish Food Delight: Tolie Restaurant in Abha, Saudi Arabia

Tolie Restaurant is a Turkish Specialty Restaurant located in King Faisal Street, Abha 62521. If you are craving for authentic quality Turkish delicacy while enjoying the great city view of Abha then this restaurant is a must try. After a day tour in the Saudi Arabia’s summer capital our group decided to have a dinner, to try some Turkish food and it did not disappoint. The price may be slightly hefty, hence considering the overall cuisine, staff service and great ambiance it would be all totally worth it.

For a group of six persons, we ordered Chicken Wings, Humus, Mix Grill and Chicken Belen Tava, Muttabal for the main dish added by Fattoush Salad as side dish. They also served us Fresh Orange, Fresh Lemonade and Watermelon Juice.

My personal favorite is the Mix Grill, composed different kinds of meat; it is a delight for meat lovers out there. The grill is so tender and flavorful.  The Humus is great for dipping some breads and mixing with rice or meat. The drinks are refreshing and very natural in taste. They also serve complimentary Turkish sweets and tea after the meal.

Staff service was also great. The personnel were always quick to help if we need something or answer inquiries regarding the menu. They were also friendly and accessible with smiles on their faces.

The ambiance is one of the great things we enjoyed; looking through the night lights of the city of Abha gives off a warm feel with all the nature decorations and fancy lights all over the place. The aesthetic is good for your social media sites and group pictures.

Over Zoom Specialty Coffee Najran

Spending quality time with friends or alone in a nice coffee shop is a good way to unwind after work or school. Over Zoom Specialty Coffee is located at Prince Ibn Abdulaziz Road, Najran City. The café highlights good variety of coffee brews and flavors as well as cakes and pastries. The ambiance is great as the inside of the café is cozy and well decorated. I like the colorful artificial trees and flowers. My favorite are the giant teddy bear sitting across one of the tables making this coffee shop Instagram worthy.

Oliva Restaurant in Najran: Food Review

Oliva Restaurant is Najran, KSA is located at 4203 King Faysal Road beside the Park. They offer wide varieties of Pizzas and Pastas in their main menu that you can choose and personalize according to your preferences, the taste are good but only not that much flavorful. I would recommend trying out their White Sauce Pasta with Seafood and Broccoli. Their pizza is also worth a try ranging from good flavors like chicken, pepperoni and cheese; most have thick pies so having few slices could make you full, that one with Chicken and cheese fillings is a must try, desserts were also in the menu from cakes to donuts. Adding fries with cheese and chicken balls plus shawarma is also a nice idea.

[Food] Falafel Arafa: Falafel Wrap

Working here in the Middle East for more than three years have made me accustomed to their culture including their foods. Arabian foods usually have strong flavors because they always contain herbs and spices. My favourite is the Falafel wrap. It consists of hummus falafel, beets, tomatoes and eggs.

The flavor is very tasty without meat. It is satisfying and handy for instant an instant meal or snack.
The Falafel wrap is healthy due to its ingredients containing mainly of vegetables. It is also good for the health conscious people who patronize vegetables or meat alternatives. The ones commonly included in the recipe are tomatoes, onions and beets. For the hummus, there are chickpeas, garlic, olive oil, parsley and coriander. The spices are mostly salt and pepper. It also contains eggs making it a good source of protein and energy.

For those living or working in the Middle East, specifically in Saudi Arabia, there is Falafel Arafa, the store where we used to buy this food. It has branches in Unaiza Al Qassim and Al-Malaz Riyadh. They can also offer orders by delivery.

[Food] Lipton Herbal Infusion Camomile - Product Review

Herbal tea infusions in instant tea drinks are now becoming popular as companies produce products with other herbs as an addition. Yesterday, I just tried Lipton’s Camomile Herbal Infusion Tea. It comes in a box with 20 sachets inside. After infusing it in warm water, it yields a light yellow color and a fragrant calming smell. The essence of Camomile dominated its taste giving a calming effect on the senses.

Camomile infusion tea is good for those with tired mind or after having a stressful day because the aroma and the taste could help you relax. Camomile plant is beneficial in inducing sleep so as for the skin. In the nutritional information found in the packaging, a 100ml of Lipton Herbal Infusion Camomile gives 4KJ/ 1kcal, less than 0.5 Protein, Carbohydrates and Sugars. It contains 0g of Fat so it is good for people who want to lose weight.

[Food] The Vigan Empanada of Ilocos Sur

The Vigan Empanada cut in Half. The ingredients are mainly of ground meat of longganisa, papaya and egg yolks.

Visiting Ilocos Sur would not be complete without tasting some of their native foods like Bagnet, Longganisa and the equally famous empanadas. There are two famous delicious empanadas in the province; one is the Batac/ Laoag Empanada and the Vigan Empanada which I just tasted for the first time. The unique taste of this Empanada makes tourist want to go back just to have a bite again. The rich flavor comes from its ingredients as well as the preparation.

Served hot with vinegar (Ilocano Vinegar)

Tourists and locals doing some food trip.

Some of its notable ingredients are papaya, carrots, the egg yolks (the Vigan version has only eggyolk unlike the one in Batac that includes the egg white) and ground meat, at times their Longganisa. The dough of the crust is made of rice flour. It is prepared deep fried. Better to eat this when it is hot dipped in Iloko Vinegar with chillies, chopped onions, garlic and pepper. I had my try when we strolled by the Burgos Plaza near the church. There is ample number of empanada and street food stalls there as well as benches for eating.

Not just the empanada is available here, there are also Okoys and street foods.
Very delectable to the taste, this native empanada recipe is addictive. The texture is soft inside with its crispy dough wrap. The price ranges from 25Pphp-40Php depending on the size or the stall. If you are planning of a visit to this famous wonder city of northern Philippines, then you should take a bite of this delicious but affordable delicacy.
